Red Light Bed
What It Is
The Red Light Bed is a full-body version of red light therapy: you lie inside a bed lined with red and near-infrared LEDs and relax. It resembles a tanning bed but contains no ultraviolet light, so it cannot tan or burn your skin.
Great for:
- Whole-body relaxation after a demanding week
- Body skin that looks dull or feels uneven
- Large areas a small facial panel cannot reach
- Feeling loose and comfortable after exercise
How It Works
The bed surrounds you with red and near-infrared light, and near-infrared reaches a little deeper into the tissue. Your cells absorb that energy through their mitochondria, the structures that produce energy inside a cell, which may help calm inflammation. Research on full-body beds focuses mainly on comfort rather than visible change, so most guests book it to relax.
Your visit:
- We discuss your goals, your health and any medications you take.
- You undress to your comfort level in a private room.
- Skin should be clean, with no lotion, oil, makeup or sunscreen.
- Goggles go on and you relax while the light surrounds you.
What to Expect
- Time: 10 to 20 minutes in the bed, roughly half an hour altogether
- How it feels: warm, bright and quiet, like gentle sunshine without the sting
- Downtime: none, although many people feel pleasantly warm and sleepy
- Results: relaxation immediately, while any change in skin develops slowly
- How often: commonly two to five short sessions weekly, then fewer
Good to know: the goggles stay on for the whole session, even with your eyes closed, and this is a wellness session rather than a treatment for illness. Let us know about pregnancy, medications or skin conditions that increase light sensitivity at your consultation, so we can confirm it suits you.
