Permanent Makeup
What It Is
Permanent makeup is a subtle form of cosmetic tattooing in which fine needles deposit pigment into the upper layers of skin, shaping your brows, tinting your lips or defining the lash line. The colour fades gradually over the years, so the shape and shade deserve careful consideration.
Great for:
- Sparse, patchy or uneven eyebrows
- Brows thinned by over-plucking or age
- Pale lips or uneven lip colour
- A soft lash line without daily eyeliner
How It Works
A fine needle enters and leaves the skin rapidly, depositing pigment just beneath the surface, where your skin seals the colour in as it heals and the shade softens gradually over the following years. Healing also lightens the pigment, which is why a touch-up about a month later completes the final result.
Your visit:
- We discuss the shape and shade you want, plus any medications or allergies.
- The design is pencilled on first, and nothing begins until you approve it.
- Numbing cream settles for 20 to 30 minutes beforehand.
- Pigment is applied, then we review the result together and explain aftercare.
What to Expect
- Time: about 2 to 3 hours for the first appointment
- How it feels: light scratching and pressure, most noticeable on the lips
- Downtime: colour appears bolder for several days, followed by gentle flaking
- Results: true colour settles 4 to 6 weeks after your touch-up
- How often: a touch-up at 4 to 8 weeks, then occasional refreshers
Good to know: this treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or while nursing, and because the pigment is designed to last, take your time deciding. Let us know about any medications, allergies or skin conditions at your consultation so we can confirm it is the right fit.
