EMS Body
What It Is
EMS, or electrical muscle stimulation, works through soft pads placed on the skin over one muscle group: the stomach, hips, thighs or arms. Gentle pulses then make that muscle tighten and release while you lie still. This is muscle conditioning rather than a weight-loss treatment, and it supports your exercise routine rather than replacing it.
Great for:
- A firmer, more toned feel in one area
- Adding muscle work alongside diet and exercise
- A session with no needles and no recovery
- Rebuilding tone after a long break
How It Works
Your nerves normally tell a muscle to contract using very small electrical signals. The device creates the same contraction with controlled pulses, repeating the cycle many times in one visit. Because the machine sets the rhythm and the intensity, the muscle works steadily while you rest.
Your visit:
- We discuss your goals and health, including pregnancy and any implanted devices.
- The area is cleaned, you lie down and the pads go on.
- Intensity rises slowly until the contractions feel strong but comfortable.
- The pads come off and we suggest water and gentle movement afterward.
What to Expect
- Time: about 30 minutes of treatment, plus a short consultation
- How it feels: tingling and pulling, then the muscle tightening on its own
- Downtime: none, although the muscle may feel sore tomorrow
- Results: not from a single visit; tone develops slowly over following weeks
- How often: a short series over several weeks, then occasional sessions
Good to know: this treatment is not suitable during pregnancy, or for anyone with a pacemaker or other implanted device. Let us know about epilepsy, heart conditions, a hernia, or any medications and skin conditions at your consultation so we can confirm it suits you.
